St. Joseph High School cross country coach receives gift on Rachael Ray show

Posted: Updated:

Did you happen to see a familiar face on the Rachael Ray Show Friday? Well, it was the cross country coach from Saint Joseph High School in Santa Maria.

It all started when coach Luis Escobar got an idea from the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter to get the shelter dogs out with his athletes. Shortly after, a video of the athletes running the dogs went viral.

"I'm not sure who was having more fun or who was more excited, the dogs or the kids? They all had big smiles on their faces," explained Escobar.

The producers of the Rachael Ray Show saw the video, contacted Coach Escobar and asked if he would go to New York to be on the show. While there, Rachael presented Escobar with a $5,000 gift card to Kohl's for new running gear for his team.

Escobar says many of the dogs that they ran were adopted because of the video.
