Local Spotlight: "Screenagers"

Posted: Updated:

If it seems to you that your kids are spending more time staring at phone and computer screens than doing homework, school activities, even talking with family and friends, you're not imagining things.

According to researchers, the average American kid spends more than six hours a day looking at screens and typing feverishly, but with just a six-second attention span.

The documentary film "Screenagers" profiles several teens who've become so immersed in their on-line lives, that their real world experiences have taken a back seat.

It's a cautionary, but fascinating tale about how and why our addiction to our electronic gadgets is slowly but surely, taking the place of what used to be normal human interaction.

UCSB Arts & Lectures is sponsoring a free screening of "Screenagers" Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Arlington Theater on State Street in Santa Barbara.
