Housing for homeless veterans ribbon cutting

Posted: Updated:

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors recently approved a new project that will house local homeless veterans and Tuesday, those vets got a look at their new home.

The home is called, "The Freedom House". It has 6 bedrooms, one for each vet.

Veterans will pay 30% of their income in rent.

The Good Samaritan Shelter worked with the Housing Authority and the County of Santa Barbara to purchase the house.

"This is a huge need. We probably have 40 vets that we could house today but today we're going to be able to house 6 of them," said Sylvia Barnard, executive director of the Good Samaritan Shelter. "We're really excited for that and they are excited for that as well.
Those residents will move in by the end of the week.
