New state alcohol law allows sipping in beauty salons

Posted: Updated:

Several new booze laws will be on the books in California next year.

You will be able to sip on wine or beer for free while having your hair done in 2017.

A new law allows licensed beauty salons and barber shops to serve up to 12 ounces of beer or six ounces of wine to a patron without needing an alcoholic beverage license or permit.

The hair parlors cannot charge customers for the alcoholic drinks.

Another one of the new alcohol laws bans powdered alcohol.

The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) will be required to suspend or revoke the license of any business that makes, distributes or offers powdered alcohol for sale. Violators could face a fine up to $500.

Assembly Bill 2172 will make it legal for home brewers to bring their beer into an ABC-licensed club, restaurant or bar, brewpub, beer or small beer manufacturer, as long as it is part of a home brewers club meeting or homemade beer competition.
