Dog friendly beaches in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties

Central Coast beaches have different regulations when it comes to allowing dogs. 

In San Luis Obispo County, dogs are allowed off-leash at the following locations:

Avila Beach
Lighthouse Beach but not above the main high tide line
Old Port Beach 
Avila Beach (only between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.)

Morro Bay
Toro Creek Beach


Dogs are required to be on-leash at the following San Luis Obispo County beaches:

Oceano Dunes (dogs can not be left unattended and must be on a leash that is no longer than 3-feet long)

Pismo Beach (dogs must be on a leash that is no longer than 6-feet long; dogs are not permitted on the pier)

Cayucos Beach (dogs not permitted on the pier)


In  Santa Barbara County, dogs are allowed off-leash at:

Arroyo Burro Beach/Hendry's Beach (below the Douglas Family Preserve)


Dogs are not permitted at the Rancho Guadalupe Dunes.


Dogs are required to be on-leash at all other Santa Barbara County parks and open spaces.
