Citizen's Academy for Santa Barbara County college students and Isla Vista residents

Applications are now being accepted for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office's second Citizen’s Academy.

This academy is specifically for Isla Vista community members and Santa Barbara County students.

The program is being put on by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, the University of California Santa Barbara Police Department, and the City of Goleta.

Classes start on April 5 and run until May 17. They will be held every Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. throughout various locations in Santa Barbara.

The program ends with a graduation ceremony and barbecue on May 20.

Course topics include shooter training, use of force, search and seizure law, building searches, arrest, control, firearms, K9 operations, and more.

If you fit the demographic and are interested in being a part of the program, you can submit a Citizens Academy Application. After filling out the application, scan and email them to Senior Deputy Dave Valadez at dmv4120@sbsheriff.org. The submission deadline is March 20.
