Flights to Seattle begin at SLO County airport

Posted: Updated:

On Thursday, the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport welcomed its first new flight in almost a decade.

People now have another option when flying to and from the San Luis Obispo airport, with direct flights to Seattle. The inaugural Alaska Airlines flight touched down Thursday with a full flight of excited passengers.

“The minute I saw that Alaska was flying out of SBP, I was on,” said Gilroy Hain, a Paso Robles resident.

The San Luis Obispo airport sees around 400,000 travelers a year with its 14 flights a day. Now the daily, two-hour service to Seattle is giving travelers expanded flying options.

“It’s huge. The last time I went to Seattle, I had to go through SFO. It was probably an hour delay at that point,” said Evan Davies, a San Luis Obispo resident.

Some passengers say this flight is saving them multiple hours of travel time.

“A lot of the flights to San Francisco get canceled for weather and so were hoping Seattle is another option for us with fewer cancellations,” said Ryan Harris of Edna Valley.

Eloisa Valdez, an Alaska Airlines representative, spoke about service pricing, “Starting at $134 one way, with a 21-day advance purchase ranging from approximately $234 each way.”

Valdez also stated that wine cases fly free for mileage plan members on flights to Seattle from San Luis Obispo.

New service to Denver from the SLO County airport will begin this June. A new $39 million airport terminal is slated to open in September.
