Woman killed in crash on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County

UPDATE - As of 2:15 p.m., the right lane of Highway 101 was open to traffic.


A woman is dead after crashing through a guard rail along Highway 101 in San Barbara County.

Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the Gaviota area around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to find a gray Honda that had crashed through the guard rail just before the southbound off-ramp to Highway 1.

According to Santa Barbara County Fire PIO Dave Zaniboni, they found the Honda overturned with a woman inside. She was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The far right lane of Highway 101 through the area is expected to be closed until about 3:00 p.m. for guard rail repairs and further crash investigation.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
