Steve Stephens, the man accused of shooting a random victim to death on a Cleveland, Ohio street and then posting video of the murder to Facebook, is dead.

Police in Erie, Pennsylvania say Stephens shot himself after a brief chase Tuesday morning.

The family of his victim, 74-year-old Robert Godwin, had publicly urged Stephens to turn himself in.

Godwin's murder and Stephens' Facebook posts and live streams that followed triggered a nationwide manhunt. Stephens had boasted of other killings, but police did not find any more victims.
