El Camino Homeless Organization is hosting its second annual Empty Bowls luncheon on Thursday April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Atascadero Bible Church.

All the money will go to a general fund that will help the shelter pay for bills and various expenses.

Empty Bowls chairperson Sandy Edmunson said. "We hope people come out for a great community luncheon (of course,) but also to support the only homeless shelter in all of North County.

The event is designed to bring awareness on what it’s like to be homeless. People in poverty often line-up in soup lines and people donating to this event will be able to see what it’s like to wait in a soup line.

Ticket holders will get to sample soups and breads made by chefs and restaurants from various parts of San Luis Obispo County.  They’ll be served by local celebrities like Sheriff Ian Parkinson, Supervisors Debbie Arnold and John Peschong, Pastor Tom Ferrel of Atascadero Bible Church and several others.

Each attendee will receive a handcrafted soup bowl as well.

Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased online at www.echoshelter.net, at the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce and several other locations throughout Atascadero.

Last year this event raised over $27,000, and is expected to be just as successful this year.
