Santa Barbara man arrested for possession of drugs and threats to police

A Santa Barbara Man is behind bars after police say he threatened to shoot them.

Wednesday afternoon, Santa Barbara Police say Juan Luis Mora, 30, was reported by neighbors to be acting erratically and waving a gun at a woman at his home in the Westside neighborhood of Santa Barbara. Neighbors also told police that Mora stated he would burn the house down.

When police arrived at the scene at 5:23 p.m., they initiated a tactical response and set a perimeter around the home.

While the scene was being contained, police say Mora threatened to shoot at officers. Police say Mora also stated that there were other people inside the home with guns and knives and that he wanted to flush them out by setting his home on fire.

Police and Crisis Negotiators spoke with Mora and convinced him to surrender without incident at 5:35 p.m.

Police then searched the home but did not find any guns or anyone else.

However police did find a flammable liquid, drugs and other drug paraphernalia.

Mora was booked for narcotics and drug paraphernalia possession, as well as the threats he made to officers.
