Celebrate Earth Day at these Central Coast events

Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22. Here are some of the events taking place across the Central Coast where you can volunteer, learn about sustainability, and enjoy live local music and food:

San Luis Obispo County

Free Earth Day Movie (Atascadero)
2:00 p.m.
Atascadero Public Library, 6555 Capistrano Avenue, Atascadero
"Microcosms" provides a close-up view of a variety of insects as they hatch from eggs, search for food, and cope with a rain storm. Popcorn and water provided.

The Earth Day Concert for Science (Cambria)
1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Greenspace Creekside Reserve, 2264 Center Street, Cambria
The Cambria Land Trust presents Zen Mountain Poets in a live concert; food by True Earth available for purchase, raffle prizes, and native pines for sale.
Tickets: $10; free for children under 14

Earth Day at Centrally Grown (Cambria)
12:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Centrally Grown, 7432 Exotic Garden Drive, Cambria
Activities for the whole family, including a wildlife petting zoo, art, and representatives from National Marine Sanctuaries.

Free Earth Day Movie (Cambria)
2:30 p.m.
Cambria Library, 1043 Main Street, Cambria 
"Sacred Planet" travels the globe to see the mountains of Vancouver, New Zealand's beaches, the deserts of Namibia, the canyons of Arizona and Utah, and the Alaskan wilderness. Popcorn will be provided.

Earth Day Pick-up and Paddle (Morro Bay)
8:00 a.m.
South end of the Embarcadero, Morro Bay
Join fellow paddlers in a shoreline cleanup. Discounted rentals for paddle boards and kayaks. 

Earth Day Celebration (Los Osos)
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Los Osos Library, 2075 Palisades Avenue, Los Osos
Science and nature-related activities for children ages 8-14.

Earth Day Restoration & Cleanup at Montaña de Oro
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Montaña de Oro State Park
Volunteers and PG&E employees will remove weeds and graffiti, clean up the shoreline, plant native vegetation, fill eroded trails, repair boardwalks, and install solar lights.

Earth Day Fair & Music Festival (San Luis Obispo)
11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
El Chorro Regional Park, San Luis Obispo
Green car show, eco marketplace, kids' activities, displays by local organizations and businesses, plus live music.

10:00 a.m.
Emerson Park, San Luis Obispo
Marchers aim to raise awareness of the importance of science and promote initiatives supporting science education, research, and policy.

Beneath the Surface Stewardship Festival (Avila Beach)
7:00 a.m. - dive clean-up check-in
9:45 a.m. - beach clean-up check-in
Central Coast Aquarium, 50 San Juan Street, Avila Beach
Divers will clean up trash near the Harford Pier at Port San Luis, while beach clean-up volunteers will meet on the aquarium lawn to clean up the beach, estuary, and Bob Jones Trail. Free BBQ for participants, live music, raffle prizes, and kids' activities.

Earth Day Celebration (Santa Maria)
11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The Natural History Museum, 412 S. McClelland Street, Santa Maria
Activities include a hula hoop contest, ukelele band performances, raffle prize drawings, Zoo to You, seed planting, face painting, a scavenger hunt, vendors, and more.

Alameda Park, Santa Barbara
Green Car Show, live music, local and sustainable foods, beer and wine garden, kids' activities, fitness activities, and celebrity appearances.

Marchers will walk down State Street toward the ocean and back up State Street to the Earth Day Festival at Alameda Park.

10:00 a.m. - walk
Chase Palm Park, 323 E. Cabrillo Blvd., Santa Barbara
The 5K event helps raise funds for Hands 4 Others, which provides clean water to people in countries around the world.
