National Park Week at Pinnacles

Posted: Updated:

It doesn't matter if you are a hiker, rock climber, or just want to see the sights of the country's newest national park. Pinnacles National Park is about 100 miles north of San Luis Obispo.
This week, Pinnacles, along with every other national park, is celebrating National Park Week by providing free admission on Saturday and Sunday.
Usually, Pinnacles National Park costs $15 per vehicle.
"Pinnacles is a small park but it's a very unique place. We have incredible geology. The pinnacles themselves, the rock formations, are volcanic spires millions of years old and you can hike among them. We're of course home to the California condor, one of the most endangered species in North America," said Park Ranger Beth Hudick.
There will be projects Saturday to give back, including a service project to remove invasive plants, then a science hike.
Other nearby national parks are Yosemite and Channel Islands off the coast of Santa Barbara.
