Duo accused of beating man, stealing his dog in Grover Beach

Posted: Updated:

Two people are behind bars after allegedly beating up a 48-year-old man and then stealing his dog in Grover Beach.

Police say the incident happened Wednesday at about 5:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of Grand Avenue.

According to police, 31-year-old Elizabeth Owens approached a man sitting at a bus stop and asked about his dog. Police say she then tried to snatch the man's dog. That's when police say 22-year-old Daniel Christonson started beating the man.

The pair reportedly took off in a green SUV with the dog.

Grover Beach police tracked down Owens and Christonson Thursday afternoon and arrested them on assault and robbery charges. Police say they had the stolen dog with them at the time of the arrest.

Officers were able to reunite the dog with its owner.

Owens and Christonson are now in San Luis Obispo County Jail.
