Firefighters contained a fire caused by a tractor in Templeton Wednesday afternoon.

The fire broke out between the train tracks and the river not far from Templeton Feed & Grain.

Templeton Fire Chief Bill White said a man on a tractor trying to rid his land of excess vegetation noticed smoke coming from the motor around 3:10 p.m. He tried to steer his tractor away from the dry grass but it was too late -- the motor had already sparked a wildfire.

Chief White said the fire burned a little more than an acre of vegetation. He reminds people to mow grass or conduct weed abatement before 10 a.m.
