K-9 teams put skills to the test to earn certifications in Paso Robles

Posted: Updated:

30 K-9 teams from all over California gathered at the Paso Robles Event Center Wednesday to put their skills to the test.

The teams were getting their certifications in patrol, narcotics, and explosives detection.

The units trained for two to six months prior to coming to Paso Robles.

The K-9's go through the training with their handlers but not all come out with the certification.

"If a dog is not ready to become certified, and be on the street, then they will get back to training and we'll keep them in training until they are ready to come out and do the right thing and perform at a satisfactory level." said Scott Blom, President of the California Narcotics Association.

K-9 units are required to get re-certified annually.
