Law enforcement and criminal justice agencies throughout San Luis Obispo County will come together Thursday to honor those who have died in the line of duty.

The annual San Luis Obispo County Peace Officers' Memorial Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Mission Plaza in downtown San Luis Obispo. The community is invited to attend.

The event will include a tribute caravan of local law enforcement vehicles. The caravan will depart from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office Honor Farm and go along Highway 1 before arriving at Mission Plaza.

Names of everyone who died in the line of duty in California since May 2016 will also be read during the ceremony.

Thursday night is Law Enforcement Night at the downtown Farmers' Market in San Luis Obispo. Law enforcement agencies from throughout the county will be on hand during the event from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

National Police Week, which pays tribute to work of law enforcement personnel, runs May 14 through 20.

Flags were requested to be lowered to half-staff on May 15 for National Peace Officers' Memorial Day.
