Warming temps for the weekend with higher fire risk

Posted: Updated:

The cool temps of early this week are gone and with high-pressure building in temps will continue to rise into the weekend.

Some offshore winds will help to warm beaches and coastal valleys into the 70s and 80s while inland temps crawl into the 90s over the next few days.

The interesting thing to watch will be the afternoon marine layer recovery.  Our modeling is showing some cloud cover and onshore afternoon winds which I think will keep temps from really shooting thru the roof.  There has been some talk of triple digits for the weekend, I think we end up a little shy of that but mid-90s are definitely possible.  At the coast not nearly that warm, in fact, a few beaches could see some stubborn cloud cover due to weaker wind flow.

Grass is starting to dry out as it does seasonally, along with the elevated temps there is some inland fire risk for the weekend.

Temps will cool next week as high pressure weakens.

While the beaches off of Vandenberg Air Force Base are popular for surfing, the water is also a popular spot for great white sharks, so several of the beaches there were closed this week for shark research.
