Daisies spread across lawn at Cal Poly carry a somber message

Posted: Updated:

A sorority at Cal Poly is working to help those struggling with mental health.

Gamma Phi Beta members laid 1,100 daisies on Mott Lawn. It is in memory of the 1,100 college students who commit suicide every year.

The sorority has been hosting "The Daisy Project" for years.

"It's a problem that a lot of people deal with but don't always talk about," said Zoe Kline, philanthropy chair for Gamma Phi Beta. "I think it is a huge deal, especially for college students that are stressed out, go through depression, and hard times to remember that life is worth living."

Part of the event includes writing encouraging words on a chalk wall and cutting out paper flowers with the names of people who are struggling with mental health or have committed suicide.
