Wildfire burning near Coalinga doubles in size

Firefighters are continuing to battle a large brush fire burning on the western edge of Fresno County. 

CAL FIRE reports the Elm Fire burning near Coalinga has grown to 10,300 acres since starting Thursday afternoon.  

The fire is 70 percent contained. 

Numerous homes and structures are threatened, forcing some residents to evacuate. 

Our NBC affiliate in Fresno, KSEE, reports Highway 198 is closed from west of Coalinga, up to the Monterey County line. 

The cause of the fire is unknown. 

Smoke from the Elm Fire blew into northern San Luis Obispo County Thursday. Residents may see and smell smoke again Friday.
