Beware of phone scam disguised as police fundraiser, officers say

Posted: Updated:

The Lompoc Police Department is warning locals about a phone scam disguised as a police fundraiser.

Police say a citizen reporting receiving a call from someone claiming to be raising money for the police department; however, the phone number used to make the call is not associated with the department.

Police say when they called the number back, a recorded message identified the fundraiser as being for the California Police Activities League, but that organization was contacted and confirmed that it also is not associated with that telephone number.

Officers warn that if you receive a call from the telephone number 657-271-1371, it is a scam and you should not provide any personal or credit card information.
