Santa Barbara County Fire officials say a trailer headed southbound on Highway 101 lost a wheel, creating sparks that ignited the grass along the highway.

It happened shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday near Highway 154 in Santa Barbara County.

Firefighters arrived to find a fast-moving fire along the right side of the highway, but they were able to contain it in about 45 minutes, officials say.

An estimated 4 to 5 acres of mostly grass were burned. No structures were threatened or damaged.

The fire prompted crews to shut down the slow lane of traffic for some time.

Firefighters are expected to remain on scene until about 1:00 p.m. to continue mopping up.
