Hunger Awareness Day aims to alleviate hunger in our community, here's how you can help

Posted: Updated:

If you can spare a dollar, that dollar can go a long way for the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County this Friday.

Friday is Hunger Awareness Day in San Luis Obispo County.

The goal of the event is to get each person in San Luis Obispo County to donate one dollar. The SLO Food Bank says one dollar can purchase ten dollars worth of food.

"Hunger Awareness Day allows us to provide nutritious food like fruits and vegetables year-round to those in need," said Aracely Aceves Lozano, SLO Food Bank. She adds that one in six residents in San Luis Obispo County does not know where their next meal is coming from.

Volunteers will be collecting donations at more than two dozen sites on Friday. For a list of locations or to make an online donation, click here.
