A brush fire caused the closure of Highway 1 at Highway 101 in southern Santa Barbara County on Thursday.

The fire was first reported at around 11:45 a.m. just west of Alamo Creek Road between Gaviota and Lompoc.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says firefighters arrived to find two or three separate fires burning in grass and brush along the northbound lanes. They were able to contain the fires to approximately three acres total.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but fire officials say it was likely caused by a passing vehicle.
