Family, friends hold paddle out and potluck in memory of Grover Beach dog attack victim

Posted: Updated:

Remembering the man who died after last year's dog attack in Grover Beach, friends and family of David Fear held a paddle out and potluck memorial.

His brother, Steve Fear, put on the event to "celebrate his brother's life."

David was an avid surfer for more than 30 years.

Steve said attendees would paddle out into the open waters, join hands and exchange surf stories in David's name.

After their surf, they spent the day enjoying a potluck and remembering their good friend.

"He loved life and we all loved it with him and we shared many a good times with him," Steve Fear said of his brother.

The dog was put down following the attack. Its owner, a former Grover Beach police officer, has been charged in the case and has pleaded not guilty.
