There's a new kid on the block in Atascadero, and he's slowly but surely settling into his habitat at the Charles Paddock Zoo.
Four-year old Rain is a Hoffman's two-toed sloth, and his caretaker says he's quite a character.
"He's very, very slow and doesn't really want to be like roused," said animal keeper Steve Tirotta. "He gets really grumpy about it when you have to make him do stuff."
Rain is the second sloth the zoo has had in recent history. The zoo said they wanted a sloth because of their popularity.
"As secretive and as really hard to see in the wild as they are, people have really become very interested in them," Tirotta said.
Once Rain gets accustomed to his enclosure, he will most likely be joined by monkey roommates, zoo officials said.
The Charles Paddock Zoo is located at 9100 Morro Road in Atascadero and is open seven days a week.
