First responders rushed to Lompoc Federal Correctional Complex Wednesday night to respond to a disturbance at one of the prisons.
Details of what happened inside the prison complex are unclear but the flashing lights of ambulances and emergency vehicles were clearly seen and widely reported.
One viewer contacted KSBY to report drivers were being turned around on a road that leads to the prison complex, saying a checkpoint was set up on Santa Lucia Canyon Road at the bridge over the Santa Ynez River, where the road becomes Floradale Ave.
A local Facebook group lit up with comments from worried families of correctional officers who had been called back to work to respond to the emergency.
No details have been released by the federal authorities overseeing the prison.
Roughly 1,300 inmates are housed at Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Lompoc, a low-security facility. Another 1,400 medium-security and minimum-security inmates are housed at United States Penitentiary (USP) Lompoc.
