'Lompoc Rocks' bringing community together

The hottest toys in Lompoc are also the cheapest. Painted rocks are getting children and families to explore all of the city.

"We found this one over near the museum," said a young boy holding up a rock painted to look like a sloth.

How to play the game: find or buy rocks, paint them and leave clues for where to find the colorful treasure on the "Lompoc Rocks" Facebook page. They can be placed at the park, near the sidewalk or anywhere in town.

"On the back of the rocks we put our group name and to post to Lompoc Rocks," said Yvette Ledesma, the organizer of the game in Lompoc.

The idea came from Arizona where Yvette's mother was visiting from.

Parents we spoke with loved the idea and said it came to Lompoc at a perfect time.

"It was something for us to do as a family during summer. The kids, they were home and started acting up. As a family we paint them and then a couple days ago we had a painting party on our block because we have tons of kids on our block and they get to hide them," said one mother.

The "Lompoc Rocks" Facebook page is accepting new members. They are also raising money for a memorial bench in Noah Scott's honor.
