All evacuation orders lifted for Alamo Fire, 94 percent containment reached

Posted: Updated:

The Alamo Fire, which broke out more than a week ago off Highway 166, is now 94 percent contained Saturday evening, according to CAL FIRE.

The fire has blackened a total of 28,687 acres, but has not grown in the past few days.

Fire officials say all evacuation orders have been lifted in the area. They urge residents to use caution when driving in the area, and remind them that fire crews are still working in the area.

There are still more than 1,400 personnel assigned to the fire, but that number continues to decrease as containment grows.

The fire started the afternoon of July 6 at the east end of Twitchell Reservoir. The cause remains under investigation.

Firefighters say crews continued making good progress on containment lines overnight. They continue monitoring and putting out hot spots while working to remove fire equipment from the area.

Full containment is expected July 22.

Highway 166 is back open and evacuation orders in the area have been reduced to warnings.

Two structures were destroyed by the fire.
