A vehicle fire has reportedly sparked another vegetation fire on the Cuesta Grade, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It was first reported at about 7:55 a.m. Saturday about halfway up the northbound side of the grade.

By 9:20 a.m., CAL FIRE said the Grade Fire was estimated to have burned about 15 acres and forward progress had been stopped.

Fire crews say a 2006 Kia Spectra caught fire while driving north on the 101, south of the TV Tower. As the Kia pulled to the right shoulder, the fire began to spread to the mountain side.

SLO City Fire, the U.S. Forest Service and at least one air tanker were assisting with the firefight.

A SIG Alert was issued for the area. The second and third northbound lanes were still closed as of 11:45 a.m.

Another vehicle fire was reported Saturday morning on Highway 41 just east of Morro Bay. The road was blocked for a short time, but has since re-opened.

On July 7, a vehicle fire sparked the Tower Fire near the top of the Cuesta Grade. That fire burned about 58 acres and was fully contained a day later.
