A small grass fire broke out in the Christmas Cove area of Lake Nacimiento Friday evening.

CAL FIRE crews in San Luis Obispo County sent a spotter plane and an engine. The aerial view just before 7 p.m. showed a half-acre of grass was burning.

CAL FIRE Public Information Officer Chris Elms said the flames were well within the scar of last year's Chimney Fire and not threatening structures.

"We have some power lines down and we're requesting PG&E," Elms said, adding forward spread of the Cove Fire was stopped and crews were mopping up.

This is the second fire in the Lake Nacimiento area today. There was a vehicle fire on Hell Hill Road a couple hours earlier. Fire crews worked the scene for about 45 minutes. CAL FIRE referred to it as the Drive Fire and said the flames did not spread beyond the vehicle.
