CAL FIRE says a faulty power line was determined to be the cause of a brush fire that broke out Monday evening near Parkfield in southern Monterey County.

The Country Fire broke out at around 6:00 p.m. in the area of Portuguese Canyon Road and Cross Country Road.

Firefighters say the fire was spreading quickly through the grass and brush when they arrived on scene, but they were able to stop the forward progress of the fire in about an hour.

It burned a total of 83 acres.
