Firefighters from Lompoc and Santa Barbara County extinguished three small fires that broke out in the Santa Ynez River bed Wednesday morning.

The fires were reported shortly before 8 a.m. in the river bed area off of McLaughlin Road.

Lompoc Fire officials report each fire burned less than 1/4 acre of brush.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.

On Monday, a fire burned a little more than two acres of brush in the river bed near the area of North A Street and Central Avenue. Fire and police officials are investigating reports that two juveniles were seen running from the area of the fire shortly after it started.
