Crews clean up sewage spill in San Luis Obispo

Posted: Updated:

Crews worked to clean up a sewage spill Thursday in San Luis Obispo after a sewer line broke.

According to SLO fire officials, the pipe on Augusta Street broke around 9 p.m. Wednesday and was spilling for several hours.

It happened near an elevator shaft and spilled onto the street and possibly into a creek nearby.

Crews vacuumed up the mess and say they stopped the sewage’s forward progress around 5 p.m. Thursday.

No evacuations were ordered. It's not clear how much sewage escaped during the line break.
