Fire outside San Miguel contained to 13 acres

Posted: Updated:

CAL FIRE says its firefighters have contained a wildfire that broke out Monday evening in southern Monterey County.

The fire broke out around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Vineyard Canyon Road and Indian Valley Road outside of San Miguel, according to CAL FIRE. The fire was contained to 13 acres around 7 p.m.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire was mowing. No one was hurt and no structures were lost.

CAL FIRE is using this incident to remind people to mow before 10 a.m. but never when it's windy or excessively dry. Also, use lawn mowers to mow lawns, not weeds or dry grass. Fire officials say metal blades can hit rocks and create sparks that start fires.
