The Morro Bay High School football team is preparing for its first game of the season against Righetti on August 25.
The Pirates had a great start to the 2016 season, winning its first four games. Then, a hard hit to the program when Assistant Coach Jim Atchison passed away. This season, the Pirates have bounced back with a new brand of football. Head Coach David Kelley says it all starts with consistency.
"The kids understand what the expectations are," said Kelley. "They know what it takes to get there. It's a matter of being consistent in doing it, so that's what we've been working on, consistency."
"I've been with these senior guys all four years," said Luke Buentiempo, senior defensive end and right guard. "I just want to finish it right and have a good season."
"My first year on varsity, we didn't win a single game. Last year, we won four and I just want to keep improving, I guess," said Myles Minnis, senior running back and linebacker.
