Officials are investigating a vehicle fire that spread to nearby vegetation in the Pozo area.

The fire sparked at about 10:00 p.m. Monday in the 3300 block of Pozo Road, about 12 miles east of Santa Margarita.

According to CHP, a father and son heard an explosion near their home and found a Nissan Frontier truck engulfed in flames.

CALFIRE San Luis Obispo reports the fire spread to brush and burned about a quarter-acre before crews put it out.

CHP says the pick-up truck was not crashed. Rather, it was simply parked on the side of the roadway.

However, neither the driver of the truck nor any passengers were found.

Fire officials say the damage could have been much worse had the fire started during the heat of the day.
