AHC Bulldogs begin season in Bakersfield

Posted: Updated:

The Allan Hancock College football program kicks off its season Saturday night as they travel to Bakersfield. The Bulldogs are coming off a 5-5 overall season in 2016 in which they went 3-2 in Western State Conference play.

AHC didn't have many problems on offense last year, averaging over 31 points and nearly 400 yards per game. The Bulldogs won the final three games on their schedule in 2016, and they hope to build off that momentum this season.

"The guys who we have returning I think are ready to go," head coach Chris Dutra said. "With Junior College, it's difficult to translate from one year to the next because you get so many new faces and the dynamics of everything change. So far, this group is excellent. They get it. I think the see the big picture and they work hard. We've been conditioning them really hard and are responding pretty well to it."

"Play physical, play tough, sophomore defensive end Connor Epley added. "They're going to be tough, and it's always been a rivalry since I've been down here on the Central Coast. I'm excited to play them again. We owe them from last year, that's all I've got to say."
