Grover Beach to hold public hearing on marijuana dispensaries

Posted: Updated:

The City of Grover Beach is hosting another public meeting later this week regarding marijuana dispensaries soon to pop up within city limits.

The meeting is happening on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at council chambers in City Hall.

City code will only allow two medical cannabis dispensaries in the city. Twelve shops have applied. On Thursday, council members will conduct a pre-application overview. Residents are encouraged to participate in the meeting.

Coastal Dance and Music Academy says it is trying to persuade the council to deny a permit to applicant Natural Healing Center. The academy says the center would be located across its parking lot at 1030 Huston Street.

"If granted a permit, Natural Healing Center and partners would displace 6 well-established and successful businesses from the 998 & 1030 Huston Street Business Park," the academy said in a statement, adding that a dispensary located so close to hundreds of students and families is "incompatible and inappropriate."

CDMA has launched a petition to support their cause.
