Bicyclists pedal their way through SLO county for annual Best Buddies challenge

Bicyclists pedaled through the Central Coast Saturday for the Annual Best Buddies Challenge Bicycle Ride.

Rider started at Hearst Ranch in San Simeon with start times of 7:00, 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at Ragged Point.

The route proceeded south, using portions of State Route 1 and Highway 46 West. Riders were off the road by 4:00 p.m., finishing off the challenge at Hearst Ranch.

All funds go towards Best Buddies International, the world's largest non-profit organization that aims at ending isolation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"It really drew us in; the cause, the people, and we were pleasantly surprised and made sure we came back this year," said one participant.

Participants can run or walk, but they're encouraged to attend the celebration after the event which includes a hot shower, gourmet food and an open bar.
