School district breaks ground on 'Ag Island' at Nipomo High School

Posted: Updated:

The Lucia Mar Unified School District broke ground Monday on the new agriculture and welding shop classrooms near Nipomo High School.

They're calling it "Ag Island."

School officials say there will be three new classrooms dedicated to agriculture education, plus a welding manufacturing lab.

The construction is estimated to cost more than $3 million, all paid for by district funds and Measure I.

"I am super excited," said Raynee Daley, superintendent. "This is a dream come true for our kids and for this high school."

School officials say the project should be finished by the end of this year.
