Thunderstorm threat diminishes into Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

An upper-level low-pressure system keeps fueling rain and scattered thunderstorms but that chance wanes tonight as it drifts further west.

Right now dew points are in the mid to upper 60s, very muggy air for here.  Combine that moisture with hot temps and this upper-level disturbance and you have the thunderstorm recipe.

Locally the rain threat should end tonight but over the Sierra, it could continue for a few more days.  The muggy air is with us another 48 hours locally before a trough opens up and brings in the cooler air along with windy conditions by Thursday.  Back to a more typical pattern for this coming weekend, finally a quiet one.
