A plane skidded off the runway in Santa Ynez Monday afternoon, damaging the plane and causing a fuel leak.

KSBY News Reporter Megan Abundis spoke with the pilot after the landing gone wrong. He explained what happened:

"We were just coming in for a regular landing and went to buy some wine from the vineyard next door and it's been a very windy and slightly blustery day. Just before we touched down, we got a very strong gust of wind from a peculiar angle and that caused us to balloon back up into the air a bit. At exactly the wrong moment, the gust of wind stopped and I was too slow to take off again and too fast to land," explained pilot Ben Hammersly, a Los Angeles resident.

Two people were on board the plane. No one was injured.

There was a small fuel leak as a result of the rough landing. HAZMAT crews were on hand to clean it up.
