The Lompoc Police Department is turning to the public for help in finding the vandals who damaged a veterans memorial in Lompoc.

Officers say the Lompoc Valley Vietnam Veterans Memorial at River Park was vandalized over the weekend.

Tiles were broken, landscaping was uprooted and trash cans were tipped over, the department said in a statement released Monday night.

The damage was first reported Sunday morning. Police believe the vandals acted overnight Saturday into early Sunday. The cost of the damage is estimated at $1,500.

Volunteers just renovated the memorial last year. At the memorial's rededication, various veterans groups pledged to take turns sprucing it up to make sure it did not fall into a state of disrepair.

The police department asks anyone with information on the vandalism to call 736-2341 or leave a tip through the department's app.
