4 people arrested in connection with pharmacy burglaries

Posted: Updated:

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says four people were taken into custody early Tuesday morning in connection with multiple pharmacy burglaries.

Sheriff's officials say, at about 2:30 a.m., they received a call about a burglary in process at a pharmacy on East Valley Road in Montecito. When deputies arrived, the burglars had already fled. They searched the area but did not find anyone.

A short time later, investigators learned that a burglary had occurred at a pharmacy in Ojai at approximately 1:30 a.m.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., sheriff's officials say a deputy in Santa Ynez spotted a suspicious vehicle drive into the parking lot of the Star Drugs pharmacy. The deputy stopped the vehicle, searched it, and reportedly found a large number of prescription pill bottles, a crowbar, and other evidence connecting the four men in the car to the Montecito and Ojai burglaries.

The four suspects have been identified as Deandre Smith, 26, Joseph Smith, 21, Eddie Smith, 20, and Alonnje Gary, 23, all reportedly from Long Beach.

They were taken into custody and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of commercial burglary, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Joseph Smith also faces a charge of loitering/prowling on private property.
