California Coast Classic Bike Tour stops in Paso Robles

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 150 cyclists stopped in Paso Robles Tuesday afternoon part of the California Coast Classic Bike Tour. The 570 mile ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles is benefit of the Arthritis Foundation.

The ride, which began in 2001, raises more than a million dollars to develop life-changing information and resources for those affected by arthritis.

While in Paso, the cyclists were able to get massages, eat a nice meal, and stay the night before heading for Oceano Wednesday morning.

"It's just a spectacular event," Kyle Berg of Pleasant Hill said. "It's a really close-knit group of people. It's a very effective, lean fundraiser for a great cause. You get to see every night a different honoree whose life you've had an indirect impact in. It's great."

"It's an iconic course that a lot of cyclists who want to cross it off their bucket lists and say, 'I really want to ride from San Francisco to LA' and sort of have this dream of this dream of doing it," Arthritis Foundation executive director Phillip Hain added. "It's a great way to entice them and combine it with fundraising for our cause."

The eight-day tour will finish on Saturday in Los Angeles.
