The National Weather Service in Reno tweeted a Tornado Warning tornado warning that confirmed a funnel cloud over the lake at 4:22 p.m.

Minutes later, the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District posted photos and a video of the funnel cloud to Facebook. The images showed a well-defined spray ring on the surface, confirming the funnel cloud had touched down on the water.

NWS Reno confirmed the spout made contact with the lake surface.

The same system that produced this waterspout began in Southern California and hit the Central Coast over the weekend. It also brought lightning strikes that caused a fire near Santa Margarita Lake and several fires in the Sierra.

KSBY Chief Meteorologist Dave Hovde says the severe weather system will move out of the area Thursday. A fall-like cold front is expected to bring gusty winds and a chance of showers toward the end of the week, followed by a stronger front early next week.
