Atascadero police: Carl's Jr. robber arrested during attempted carjacking

Police in Atascadero say they caught a suspected restaurant robber Wednesday afternoon, but not before he committed a second crime.

Officers responded to Carl's Jr. on El Camino Real for a report of a robbery in progress around 5:18 p.m. They say a man later identified as 29-year-old Roberto Ramos threatened employees with a knife and demanded money.?

Atascadero police say they arrived two minutes later and saw Ramos running away from the restaurant into the nearby Vons parking lot. At that point, police say, Ramos pulled the knife on a second person and demanded his car keys.

The victim handed over the keys just as officers arrived. Ramos was soon taken into custody.

Police say Ramos stole around $70 from Carl's Jr. before taking the innocent driver's keys. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of robbery and attempted carjacking.
