Car seat check-up event in San Luis Obispo

Posted: Updated:

Drivers of kids who ride in car seats - listen up. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says there's a high likelihood your child's car seat isn't installed correctly, putting their life at risk.

Tuesday, local law enforcement and San Luis Obispo county staff are teaming up to help parents keep their kids safe.

"The best way to protect your kids is to put them in the right car seats for their age and size and use those seats correctly on every trip, every time," said Dr. Penny Borenstein, County of San Luis Obispo Health Officer. "By attending a car seat check-up, parents and caregivers can be sure their kids are riding as safely as possible."

From 9:00 a.m. to noon, officers from the California Highway Patrol and San Luis Obispo City Police Department, along with other county staff, will show parents how to pick the right car seat for your child and how to properly install it in your car.

The free event will happen in the Target parking lot on Los Osos Valley Road in San Luis Obispo.
