Cabrillo High students walk out in protest over principal's administrative leave

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of Cabrillo High School students walked out of school Monday morning. The protest was in support of their principal, Jeff Wagonseller, who was put on administrative leave.

Many students said they wanted him back at school.

"We came out here today to help and show our support for Mr. Wagonseller," said Erin Jenkins, a senior. "We want him back as a principal and we believe that as a student body, we believe that he didn't (do) what he is out on administrative leave for."

The school was aware of the protest ahead of time after seeing social media posts about it.

"We realize this was going to happen and we very clearly understand that students have the right to do that," said John Karbula, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services for the Lompoc Unified School District.

School district officials have not revealed why Wagonseller was placed on leave, saying only that it is a personnel matter.
